How Podcast Management can help when starting or growing your podcast in small business

The Podcast movement

At the end of 2020, the audio and media services platform Spotify recorded over 2.2 million podcasts available on its platform including a multi-year podcast deal with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex company, Archeweld Audio. With approximately 184 million paid subscribers, Spotify found podcasts to be a popular medium during last year’s lockdown with more podcasts being listened to during the last quarter as reported in the Guardian.

The portable audio format of a podcast has made it a popular choice for people with busy lifestyles and suits multi-taskers who like to use their time wisely. They can listen to an episode while travelling, exercising, at work, even doing the grocery shopping!

A listener can pick and choose the episode they wish to listen to – at the time they choose, from anywhere in the world.

If they don’t have the time to listen to a whole episode, they can press pause or fast-forward to the bit they really want to listen to or come back to it later.

Why should you start podcasting?

Podcasts have become an affordable marketing tool for small businesses. They allow businesses to broaden their network by sharing educational or informational content and reach a wider audience base with content that engages with the listener.

Podcasts also give your audience insights into who you are, what your personality is like and what it could be like to work with you, which comes back to the know, like, trust factors (when it comes to building relationships)

How to get your Podcast started

To get your podcast started all you need is a good quality microphone, a set of headphones, a laptop and access to a hosting platform, much similar to a website hosting platform that allows you to record, plan and store your media files for your podcasts.

Some of the best podcast hosting companies include;

  • Podbean
  • Buzzsprout
  • Captivate
  • Transistor

My favourite podcast host is Whooshkaa! Whooshkaa is an Australian company that offers a cost-effective one-stop-shop for all your podcast needs.

It has a transcribe feature and amazingly easy to upload your audio files. It allows you to connect your accounts once, and that’s it! It’s user-friendly which is also a big plus!

After you have created your podcast you then need to choose where you want to share it.

Where to share your podcast

Some of the platforms you can load your podcasts include:

  • Spotify,
  • Apple iTunes,
  • Google Podcasts, or
  • on your website.

Most platforms will be available for both Android and iPhone users.

Putting your podcast processes in place

The art of podcasting can take up so much of your headspace due to so many moving parts it involves.

There is researching topics, finding guests to interview, preparing questions to ask them plus more.

It can be quite overwhelming for a small business owner who already has a busy schedule. It’s important that you put some processes in place for your podcast series.

The last thing you want is to go to all that effort and drop the ball by forgetting to schedule a podcast episode!

Unless it’s your absolute business passion and you don’t want to do anything else, that’s all good.

But it’s tasks like podcast admin and processes where you need a Podcast Manager to help you get over the overwhelm and help you produce consistent digital content.

That’s where I can help!

To ensure your podcast management service runs smoothly all year round, I can help from the initial start-up phase, setting up a process that your staff can easily follow and liaise with team members to ensure everyone is on the same page, run the process so that you have a podcast presence for your business and have the team on the same page so they’re aware of the process and whether they play a role in it.
